ZZ Plant Care Guide

The ZZ Plant (Zamioculcas zamiifolia) is a hardy, low-maintenance houseplant known for its glossy, deep green leaves and striking upright growth. Its ability to thrive in low light and endure periods of drought makes it an excellent choice for both beginners and busy plant parents.

Lighting

The ZZ Plant thrives in low to moderate indirect light but can adapt to a wide range of lighting conditions, including fluorescent office lighting. For optimal growth, place it in bright, indirect light, though direct sunlight should be avoided to prevent leaf burn.

Watering

Allow the soil of your ZZ Plant to dry out completely between waterings. Water thoroughly when the top 2-3 inches of soil are dry, ensuring excess water drains away. The ZZ Plant is drought-tolerant and sensitive to overwatering, which can cause root rot.

Temperature and Humidity

The ZZ Plant prefers temperatures between 65°F and 85°F and tolerates standard household humidity levels. It’s highly adaptable but will appreciate a slightly more humid environment, especially in dry indoor spaces.

Feeding

Feed your ZZ Plant with a diluted, balanced liquid fertilizer every 2-3 months during the growing season (spring and summer). Avoid fertilizing in fall and winter when the plant's growth slows down. Minimal feeding is needed due to its slow-growing nature.
