Staghorn Fern
The Staghorn Fern is a sculptural epiphyte with antler-shaped green fronds and rounded shield fronds at its base. It naturally grows attached to trees rather than in soil, so airflow, humidity, and a light hand with water matter more than frequent watering.

Light
Provide bright, indirect light. Gentle early sun is acceptable, but avoid hot afternoon rays that can scorch the fronds.
Water
Water when the growing medium is nearly dry. For a plant in a nursery pot, water thoroughly and let it drain; for a mounted plant, soak the root ball and allow it to drip dry. Avoid keeping it constantly wet.
Humidity & temperature
It appreciates moderate to high humidity and temperatures around 60–80°F. Keep it away from drying vents and cold drafts.

How to help it thrive

Light

Feeding
Feed monthly in spring and summer with a balanced fertilizer diluted to half strength. Reduce feeding in fall and winter.
Repotting
Repot only when crowded, using a loose epiphytic mix with plenty of bark and drainage. It can also be mounted once established. Do not remove brown shield fronds—they protect the roots and are a normal part of the plant.
Propagation
Mature plants may form offsets. Separate an offset only after it has its own roots and several fronds.
A good spot for your Staghorn Fern
Display it in a bright bathroom, kitchen, or living area where its unusual silhouette has room to spread.

Help your plant settle in
A little travel stress is normal. Keep the first few days simple.
Unpack gently
Remove the natural wood strands from the soil surface. They kept soil in place during shipping.
Check before watering
Feel the soil first and follow the plant-specific watering cue above. Do not water only because it arrived.
Let it rest
Place it in the recommended light and keep it away from heating vents, cold drafts and harsh direct sun.
Keep its nursery pot
If you chose an upgraded pot, leave the plant in its nursery pot inside it. Decorative moss may stay or be removed.

Quick troubleshooting
Check the simplest causes first and change one part of the routine at a time.
- Brown shield fronds at the base: This is normal; leave them in place to protect the roots.
- Crispy antler fronds: Check for too much direct sun, very dry air, or long gaps between waterings.
- Dark, soft tissue at the base: Improve airflow, reduce watering, and make sure excess water drains away.
